The aim of this masters thesis was to analyse the use of potentially risky over- the-counter medicines, dietary supplements or food in patients with a history of kidney disease taking immunosuppressants. Methods: Data for the cross-sectional study were obtained in the form of a controlled interview with patients of the Nephrology Consultation of the Teaching Hospital Hradec Králové. The guided interview was carried out by the researcher in the form of phone calls with patients in March 2022 through a structured questionnaire. This diploma thesis focuses specifically on the phenomenon of self-medication with cannabis (Cannabis Sativa L.) in the Czech Republic exploring subjective perception of this treatment by ill persons and its sociocultural framework. It describes a situation when the state fails to effectively regulate medical cannabis and patients often seek practices of self-medication, which remains illegal. Theoretical part of this thesis aims to explain the self- medication and cannabis use in the sociocultural context. Practical part is based on an anthropological research, which was implemented in the Czech Republic from January 1, 2017 to May 1, 2017 in a form of the on-line qualitative questionnaire survey. The research sample consists of 107 subjects, who used cannabis and its derives for self-medication. The analysis was done by the Grounded theory method. The results demonstrate that people who seek cannabis self-medication in the Czech Republic consider current legal regulation of cannabis objectionable. Cannabis plants for self-medication are usually grown at home and people find information about specifics of the treatment on-line. Among the OTC medicines, analgesics belong to the drugs with the highest consumption. They are also popular in the group of seniors, who often suffer from chronic pain, mainly of the musculoskeletal system. Aim of study: In the theoretical part to carry out a review of published papers concerning safety of self-medication with analgesics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. In the practical part, by performing a questionnaire survey to acquire and analyze the attitudes of seniors regarding self-medication with analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs focused on ibuprofen. One of the most favourite over the counter (OTC) analgesics is ibuprofen, however its use can be associated with certain drug related problems (DRP). The potential of DRPs is increasing with age which makes seniors more sensitive to them. Aim of study: 1) To create an overview of DRPs of OTC analgesics, focusing on paracetamol (acetaminophen). 2) Through the survey find out the knowledge and experience of seniors with self-treatment by OTC analgesics. ADHD and cannabinoid use as a form of self-medication

BASIC POSTULATES: It is common the people affected by ADHD consume addictive substances, seeking relief from their sensations of motorical unease and to disturb their rationalising and thinking. Using these substances subjectively improves their abilities, reducing the undesired and unpleasant sensations emanating from the ADHD, possibly even creating enjoyable and desirable moods. The resulting problem is, this self-medication causes troubles in many aspects, detectable only gradually after longer periods of consumption. What starts as an effort to paliate the undesirable symptoms of ADHD and other effects thereof, progressively becomes seeking a solution to harmful consumption of marihuana and, in extreme cases, additiction to cannabinoids. OBJECTIVES: The main objective of this thesis is to find out what is the purpose of the people with ADHD diagnosis in taking cannabis. The focus as put on whether cannabis is used to treat the symptoms of ADHD or not (regardless of the diagnosis).
